Karamazov (pronounced kərŭ'mä·zəv, though he usually just goes by the nickname "Kar," pronounced kär) is the second-oldest of his siblings, and the first to be born in Triscot, after his parents and older brother had moved there from Kurok in 903, to support the clan of his mother, who were opposed to the Coming of the Order. He was named after an Earth novel called "The Brothers Karamazov" (see Terran culture). Following the Battle of Triscot (two months after Kar was born), the clan went into hiding. It was erroneously believed that the adults had all been killed, while the children had been sent to live in secret with various foster parents. However, in 912, shortly before the Chaos War, the clan came out of hiding. Following the war, Kar and his family moved back to Kurok, which Kar then saw for the first time in his life. Until that time, Kar and the other members of his immediate family had gone by the surname "Lonewander," as did most of Lucia's clan. However, when they returned to Kurok, they learned that Kuris's clan had taken the name "Aletheia" (ə'lēth·ē·ə) in 904, and the name was now adopted by Kuris, his wife, and children, as well. In 913, Kar and his brothers began attending a local school.
