Esmeralda succeeded Veronica as Arch-bishop in 859, at which point she moved to Monab. She died in 881, and was replaced by Talak, who was in charge of the delegation that returned her body to her home village, in early Su'gin of that year. (This caused Talak to miss the first week or two of the annual Pilgrimage, in his very first year as Arch-bishop.) Shortly before her death, she had made arrangements for a well-respected journalist from her home village, Hubert, to attend that year's Pilgrimage, and write an article about it. However, she would not live to see the article he wrote, which was dedicated to her memory.
