Cardamom is an herbaceous perennial plant of the same family as ginger and melegueta. Its seeds are commonly used as a spice in cooking and baking. Cardamom is also used in flavoring Prittian coffee, as a mulling spice for wine, an ingredient in chai tea, sauces, etc., and may be used by apothecaries in making certain medicines.
